Lamborghini Urus hits 298km/h on ICE!

Okay, so this Russian guy got hold of the Lamborghini SUV, and took it to a huge frozen ice lake in Siberia, Russia, and drove it to a top speed of 298km/h. Sounds too crazy to be true? Well, the RAF (Russian Automobile Federation) has confirmed this top speed run completed back in March by Andrey Leontyev, an 18-time record holder of Days of Speed on Baikal Ice.

Leontyev managed to do this by starting with an average of 114km/h standing start before putting the pedal to the metal within a distance of 1,000 metres. Despite strong winds and super slippery conditions that greatly reduce traction, the Lamborghini Urus managed to handle everything that was thrown at it and hit a magnificent top speed of 298km/h within that 1km distance.

Spec-wise, the Lamborghini Urus is fitted with a 650hp V8 twin-turbo engine, making it one of the fastest 'Super SUVs' in the world. In normal conditions (not on ice, obviously), the Urus can hit 0-100km/h in just 3.6 seconds and 0-200km/h in 12.8 seconds before eventually hitting its top speed of 305km/h. And yet, it's not its biggest highlight if you ask Leontyev.

"The Urus’ biggest advantage is its absolute versatility: it is extremely easy and comfortable to operate in any situation while feeling like you’re a strong unit with it. Despite its significant power, supercar roots, and supercar behavior, the Urus is forgiving and obliges the pilot. I am certain that even a fairly inexperienced driver could still perform well in this vehicle if they were to step onto the race track," stated the Russian.

But why would someone even think about doing something like this?

"We're like an off-grid test lab. Automotive engineers can see how their products behave when pushed to the limit on a surface that is ten times more slippery than asphalt in torrential rain. Which means, if you manage to stay in control of a vehicle that's racing at 300 km/h over natural uneven ice, jumping over bumps with the suspension constantly being pushed to the limit, then driving a car on wet or icy asphalt at 90 km/h doesn't seem like that big of a deal. The techniques you develop under extreme conditions can be easily applied in day-to-day life, making driving safer, simpler, and more fun." added Leontyev.
