2021 Toyota Hilux GR Sport launched in Thailand

Toyota GR Hilux

This is what you get when you cross the world's most indestructible truck with the brand behind one of the hottest hatches of the year, the Toyota GR Yaris.

Unfortunately, the Toyota Hilux Revo GR Sport is a Thai exclusive. Our neighbours up north can opt for the sportier GR-S trim for the 4WD double-cab truck as well as the low-riding 2WD version, which is essentially a RWD Toyota with Gazoo Racing emblems much like the Toyota GR Supra.

The Hilux Revo GR Sport is closer in concept to the Vios GR-S sold in Malaysia than the GR-branded versions of the Avanza and Agya (Axia) sold in Indonesia in the sense that it packs suspension improvements to go with its sportier persona. The 2WD Hilux gets a newly-tuned height adjustable suspension that's lower by 23mm for a more 'flushed' and sporty look while the 4WD rides on 'Mototube' shocks that are presumably more adept at coping with higher loads and tougher driving conditions.

Both variants are powered by the feistiest engine available in the Hilux range, which is a 2.8-litre turbodiesel good for 204PS and 500Nm of twist.

Prices start from 889,000 Baht, which is the rough equivalent of RM115k, for the 2WD while the 4WD variant tops out at 1,309,000 Baht, which works out to close to RM170k. Would you be willing to fork out that much for a GR Hilux in Malaysia?
