The Malaysian car market welcomed yet another new electric vehicle in the form of the all-new Mazda MX-30, which was unveiled by Bermaz Motor Trading Sdn Bhd at the 1 Utama shopping centre earlier today.
The 2022 Mazda MX-30, which is Mazda’s first battery-electric vehicle (BEV), is also the brand’s third new-generation model after the Mazda3 and the Mazda CX-30.
Officially available for booking with a starting price of RM 198,780.00, we were told that there will be two variants of the EV, namely the MX-30 Mid and MX-30 High with varying list of features.
Both variants however, will share the same powertrain package which comprises an electric motor and a 35.5 kWh lithium-ion battery pack which gives a driving range of approximately 199km.
The e-Skyactiv front-wheel drive powertrain technology delivers an output of 143 hp and a maximum torque of 271 Nm, enabling the crossover to achieve a top speed of 140 km/h and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.7 seconds.
The 35.5kWh battery can be charged up to 80% within 36 minutes using the DC fast charging of 40 kW. The MX-30 also adopts a refrigerant cooling system that cools the battery pack when the temperature rises.
Also part of the package is Mazda’s G-Vectoring Control (GVC) which uses the powertrain to improve chassis performance.
Measuring almost as big as the CX-30, the MX-30’s exterior highlights include suicide doors like the RX-8, LED headlights and taillights, keyless entry, a two-tone paint job, a sunroof, and 18-inch wheels.
Inside the MX-30, a new floating centre console and the door grips are made of cork, one of the most highly renewable and eco-friendly resources that also pays homage to Mazda's origin as a cork manufacturing company more than 100 years ago.
Meanwhile the door trim uses fibers that are made from recycled plastic bottles and the cork is harvested from the bark of trees without felling.
The floating centre console features an electronic shifter with multi-function commander knob and shortcut buttons that allows the driver and passenger to safely operate the 8.8-inch Mazda Connect Infotainment system.
The Mazda MX-30 is also equipped with a 360-degree view monitor that provides an all-round view around the vehicle and the interior features fabric and leatherette seating equipped with 8-way power, 2-way lumbar adjustments and 2-position memory function for the owner.
In addition, The Mazda MX-30 is equipped with a 12-speaker Bose sound system which adopts Mazda Harmonic Acoustics audio system.
In terms of safety, Mazda’s i-Activsense Advanced Safety Technology features such as Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS), Driver Attention Alert (DAA) with Driver Monitoring, Lane-keep Assist System (LAS) comes as standard in both the variants.
