Despite being 'teased' locally last month, we're no strangers to the upcoming Mitsubishi Xpander 7-seat crossover – we sized it up in Jakarta some time back.

Well, it won't be long before it officially launches in our market as Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) have opened up the order books for it starting today. Annoyingly, the firm remains tight-lipped about prices still, but credible insider sources indicate that it will – tentatively, that is – not break the RM100k mark.

At that price, the Xpander is poised to things like the Honda BR-V and Toyota Rush something to sweat about. With today's order-taking announcement, MMM were also keen to share what's in store with the Xpander in terms of features.

Apart form three rows of seats for seven, the the Malaysian-flavoured Xpander gets a black-themed cabin motif and leather upholstery for the aforementioned seats. It also packs keyless entry and ignition, a massive 9-inch touchscreen infotainment unit brimmed with Apple Car Play and Android Auto connectivity, 360-degree parking view, forward-facing dashcam, as well as roof-mounted rear air-vents.

Besides that, the Xpander will pack a few other tasty features such as all-LED lighting front and aft plus 16-inch alloy wheels. In terms of safety, the Xpander will come lined with ABS + EBD for starters, along with stability control, hill-start assist, as well as ISOFIX child seat anchors.

All these features should bode well with the Xpander's offer of a sizable 495-litre standard boot space, which can be expanded to a maximuum of 1,600 litres with the rear seats folded. Aptly, those figures should tell you this will be one of the most practical sub-RM100k 7-seater around too.

As for the powertrain, the Xpander will harness a 1.5-litre 4cyl MIVEC mill. It develops 103bhp and 141Nm, which are sent to the front wheels via a fur-speed automatic box.

Want to take a closer look at the Xpander for yourself? Well, if you happen to be in either Johor Bharu or Ipoh, you can do so with MMM's on-going roadshows that's happening at the Toppen Mall, Johor Bharu from October 23 to 25, and at the Ipoh Parade Mall, Ipoh from October 29 to November 1.
