The folks over at UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) announced today that the upgraded 2020 model year GR Supra is now available locally.

There are several key changes, most notable of which being its upgraded 3.0-litre straight-six turbo heart. It now benefits with a new dual-branch exhaust manifold with 6 ports instead of 2 for improved heat management, along with redesigned pistons.

These new hardware sees the compression ratio reduced from 11:1 to 10.2:1, granting a 14 per cent power bump from 335bhp to a beefier 382bhp. Torque remains at 500Nm, but it's now delivered across a wider band between 1,800 and 5,000rpm instead of 1,600 and 4,500rpm prior.

Power still goes to the rear wheels via a ZF-supplied 8-speed automatic, with the power bump and improved torque delivery band now granting a slightly quicker 0-100kph sprint time of 4.1 seconds now – a 0.2-second improvement.

Of course, power is nothing without control, and Toyota knows this. To match the power bump, they’ve even added something called a ‘Performance Rod’ to firm up the chassis slightly.

There's also a new set of red-painted brake calipers that’s decked out with the ‘Supra’ badge now present. Apart from this, little else has changed visually from what we saw during the model’s launch last September.

One last change lies in this sportscar's price or prices rather. Naturally, it has increased slightly as a result of the upgrades mentioned earlier.

With the governemnt’s on-going SST waiver, the 2020 GR Supra retails from RM589,987 excluding insurance. This figure increases to RM611,880 from January 1 2021 onwards with SST in affect.
