Yup, that’s a lot of torque. Not that we’re complaining…

Volvo Car Malaysia (VCM) again moves the hybrid game forward in Malaysia after officially launching the massively powerful S90 T8 Twin Engine variant. Wait… plug-in hybrid and massively powerful?

Yes, the S90 T8 Twin Engine is much like the XC90 T8, just in a sedan form obviously. By using both turbo- and supercharger technology, plus an electric motor to drive the rear motor, the new S90 makes a grand total of 407hp and 640Nm of torque. Your eyes do not deceive you… 640Nm!

This is enough to move Volvo Car Malaysia’s flagship premium sedan to 100kph from standstill in 4.8 seconds, and pure electric range of 50km.

The S90 T8 is available in two trim levels of Inscription and Inscription Plus, priced at RM368,888 and RM388,888 (+ taxes, without insurance). But those who place their order before 31 October 2017 gets a special price of RM348,888 and RM368,888 respectively.

The Inscription trim, the brand’s high-spec option, and the Inscription Plus, comes with Park Assist with Park Assist Pilot, 360˚ Surround View Camera, Blind Sport Information System (BLIS) with Cross Traffic Alert (CTA), Lane Keeping Aid (LKA), 2-stage Integrated Booster Seats, Comfort Seats with Fine Nappa Leather and the handmade Orrefors Crystal gear lever.

Also major features which are included as part of the Intellisafe package are Adaptive Cruise Control, City Safety, Pedestrian, Cyclist & Large Animal Detection, and Run-Off Road Mitigation. You may gather that all these technologies, and others, does allow for semi-autonomous drive. Pilot Assist, for example, gives gentle steering input to keep the car properly aligned within lane markings up to motorway speeds of around 130 kph and no longer needs to follow another car.

The key difference with the Inscription Plus variant is the inclusion of an air suspension system with electronically controlled damper. This ensures that the rear of the vehicle is always at the correct level no matter amount of load. It also adapts to the road condition and driving conditions.

Additionally, the car includes a much more premium Bowers & Wilkins sound system with 19 speakers. Why not, right?

The S90 T8 Twin Engine will be top-of-the-range in the S90 sedan range, on top of the already-available S90 T5 and T6 variants. And just like the two, the T8 is also assembled at VCM’s factory in Shah Alam.
