Toyota Motor Corp collaborates with Grab

Grab has made major milestones in its young corporate existence, but scoring a collaboration with Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) may just be its biggest yet. The Southeast Asia ride-sharing company has formed an alliance with TMC, Toyota Financial Services Corporation (TFS), and Aioi Nissay Dowa Insurance Co. Ltd. to extend their current The Connected Company project in Southeast Asia.

The Connected Company is an in-house TMC company that collects information such as driving patterns and deliver telematic services like the vehicle positioning management system to fleet customers using a device they created called the TransLog driving recorder.

Hence, the TransLog device will be fitted to 100 Grab cars, where the eventual driving patterns will be analysed. The result will help Toyota to consider steps in delivering connected services including user-based insurance, financing programs, and predictive maintenance that make up the Toyota Mobility Service Platform (MSPF).

"Through this collaboration with Grab, we would like to explore new ways of delivering secure, convenient and attractive mobility services to our fleet customers in Southeast Asia." said Shigeki Tomoyama, Senior Managing Officer of Toyota Motor Corporation and President of the Connected Company.

"Toyota is a global leader in the automotive sector and one of the most popular brands with drivers on our platform right across Southeast Asia, and we're excited to work together to explore how we can extend more and better connected car services to our driver partners," said Anthony Tan, co-founder and CEO of Grab Inc. "We are confident this will benefit our driver partners, and we look forward to exploring other ways to collaborate with Toyota in the future."
