Jason Bourne landed in cinemas, and it features a set piece near the finale that threatens to trump any action sequence the previous films have accomplished.

They shut down the Las Vegas strip – the first time that’s ever been done for a film chase – and let rip. Up front is a SWAT van, and in hot pursuit is Matt Damon’s Jason Bourne, in a Dodge Charger. It’s quite fantastic.

It also got us thinking – what would make an excellent movie getaway vehicle? We’ve asked you this same question before, and below is a list of your suggestions, and a few from the Top Gear office. They broadly cover two dimensions: ‘discreet and fast’, and ‘so bombastic it doesn’t matter’.

Audi S8
Surely one of the finest getaway cars in existence, no? Discreet, supremely fast - especially in S8 Plus trim – and built to last.

Lotus Carlton
It just had to be on this list. So quick it upset the Daily Mail: 377bhp and a 283kph top speed makes it the perfect machine for evading film baddies.

BMW M5
Sensing a theme here people? Discreet, four-doors, ballistically quick? Check, check and, um, check. The new BMW M5 Competition packs a whopping 592bhp. It is enough.

Toyota Hilux... specifically the one with a massive V8
Last year, in celebration of one million Hilux models being sold in South Africa, Toyota released a one-off, 450bhp V8-engined pick-up. Because why the hell not? Engine from a Lexus IS-F super saloon, and the mother of off-roading capability. Film directors, PUT THIS IN YOUR MOVIE.

Mercedes G500 4x4 Squared. By Brabus
Why the Brabus? Because power. The famed German tuner decided to up the G500’s ponies to 493bhp and 709Nm of torque from the biturbo 4.0-litre V8. Lots of ground clearance, much power, some tuning trinkets. Probable ability to drive over some things.

Volvo V60 Polestar
Now we’re cooking. The Polestar Volvos have always been supremely cool, and with 362bhp and that subtle V60 body, this one makes a perfect film car candidate. Yes, gone is the rorty straight-six underneath, but a hugely powerful turbo’d four-pot works just fine. Plus, you could always overlay the set piece with a completely false, unrelated V8 soundtrack. Could work.

Nissan GT-R
For obvious reasons. It’s a GT-R. It’s already been in movies. It’s quite indestructible and packs enough power to evade capture from this or any other movie world’s fictional authorities.

However, if you want to make the GT-R look entirely ballistic on camera, perhaps you’d appreciate this next one instead…

The 1400bhp, record-breaking drift Nissan GT-R
…yup. Clad it in black. Deploy a committed driftsman on board. Cue the cameras. Slide. OK, so perhaps this record-breaking GT-R – which holds the Guinness World Record for the fastest ever drift (at 306kph) – won’t be the perfect getaway vehicle, what with its propensity to drive everywhere mostly sideways. But it’d certainly look the best. Ergo any drift car.

Avtoros Shaman
It has eight-wheel drive and eight-wheel steer. It measures 6.3 metres and weighs 4.8-tonnes. It’ll cost around £88k. And rest assured, no baddie in the history of cinema will be able to slow you down.

Ford Focus RS
Yep, Top Gear’s Car of the Year makes a great case for a movie getaway car. Partly because it’s fast, grippy and involving, but mostly because IT’S GOT A DRIFT BUTTON. Drift buttons, as you obviously know, are our favourite kind of buttons.
