Hyundai Tucson 1.6 T-GDI now in Malaysia

While we wait for the official launch of the new Elantra, Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) is keeping things interesting after announcing that the Hyundai Tucson now comes with a 1.6-litre GDI engine variant.

As obviously different from the current 2.0-litre variant, the new 1.6-litre petrol engine features turbocharging and direct injection to produce 175bhp at 5,500rpm and 265Nm of torque between 1,500 and 4,500rpm. Also important is that this Tucson variant uses a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox developed by Hyundai itself.

Apart from the new powerful powertrain, this new variant is also bundled with convenient features such as LED Positioning Headlamps with Static Bending Lights; Auto Hold function that automatically holds the brake steady once the vehicle has come to a complete stop. This prevents it from creeping forward or rolling backward; and a smart powered tailgate which opens at the approach of the key-holder. The 1.6L T-GDI Tucson also features newly designed rims for a sporty look.

Six airbags, Vehicle Stability Management (VSM) system, Hillstart Assist Control (HAC), Downhill Brake Control (DBC) and the Electric Parking Brake (EPB) with an Automatic Vehicle Hold feature are all standard safety features. This is in addition to a body structure that is 51 per cent utilizing ultra-high strength steel.

Optional accessories with added costs, such as two leather packages for seats and interior door trimmings (colour options: red and white), body kit and 19” rims are available for customers who would like to enhance the look of their Tucson.

The Tucson 1.6 T-GDI is priced at RM145,588 (OTR without insurance), that comes with a five year /300,000km warranty. As with the other Tucson variant, it comes with 50,000km free service that is valid for three years. A 24-hour road assist service is also available now for new and existing Hyundai vehicles.
