Honda Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. (HMSB) have just announced that 419 units of the Honda Civic Type R in Malaysia will need to have its front airbag inflators – for both driver and passenger – replaced. Is there any doubt as to why? The Takata airbag of course.

The specific models involved are those from year 2007 to 2008, as well as from 2010.

HMSB also says that current selling models are not involved with the recall.

This is a crucial safety recall move, which we cannot stress enough of its importance. The problem is that the inflator material may cause excessive internal pressure once activated. This will cause the inflator casing to rupture, possibly causing injury or even fatality of the driver or passenger.
