Other cars at the Malaysia Autoshow

No plans this weekend? Well, dropping by the MAI Malaysia Autoshow is highly recommended, if only to view these cars (other than the Honda BR-V and Proton Iriz Special Edition of course):

Kia Grand Carnival
5

In not so many words, this thing is huge. Planned to be launched in early 2017, the Grand Carnival now comes with a premium tag, complete with comprehensive safety features including ESC, traction control, Hill-Start Assist and six airbags.

Powering the vehicle is a R2.2 CRDi VGT turbo diesel engine that produces 190bhp and 440Nm of torque. This is sent to the front wheels via a six-speed auto.

A purchase of the Grand Carnival coms with a five-year warranty with unlimited mileage. See if it fits your requirements and if it does, simply make a booking right there.

Hyundai Ioniq
Ioniq

This one is rather interesting, and while its launch is only due by the end of the year, bookings can already be made. And there’s good reason to do just that. With Hyundai’s Blue Drive Technology, the Ioniq hybrid is powered by a 1.6 GDI four-cylinder engine with a 43bhp electric motor. Together, this combo delivers 139bhp and 265Nm of torque. Drive is delivered through a six-speed dual clutch transmission.

As a hybrid, it has other tricks to ensure a more efficient performance, including aerodynamics. Its active aero grille, wheel air curtains and smooth underbody all help to contribute to the slippery 0.24 coefficient of drag value.

Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors have yet to launch it so the car’s price is still to be finalized. But they do indicate an estimated starting price of RM130,000.

BAIC EV200

So it’s not a looker but it is a significant car; after all it is the first locally assembled EV (electric vehicle) for Malaysia. And we have to note that while BAIC is not quite well known here, the company is one of the more important automotive companies in China.

Among the things that you’ll learn by dropping by their booth at the autoshow are the EV200’s variants: they’re called Relaxing, Showy and Enjoyable. Yes, that’s right. But that’s not to say it doesn’t pack serious tech.

Top speed is 125kph, all coming from its lithium-ion battery that powers an electric motor to spin the front wheels. Range is rated at 200km.

Now, price is still an unknown as the car has yet to be officially launched, but being the country’s first locally assembled EV – thus earning it fiscal incentives – it should be quite attractive.
