Yamaha YZF-R15
More news from the two-wheeled front as Hong Leong Yamaha Motor Sdn Bhd (HLYM) unwrapped its latest addition last weekend in the form of the new Yamaha YZF-R15.
The local Yamaha bikes assembler and distributor unveiled this sporty new entry-level sports machine during its Gen Blu Carnival held in Batu Kawan, Penang. Slotted just below the popular YZF-R25, this new offering is set to woo avid newbies.
On the surface, this third generation YZF-R15 model draws much inspiration from Yamaha’s other sport-bodied machines like the YZF-R25, YZF-R6 and YZF-R1. By the way, the design isn’t just for show as it boasts aerodynamic qualities too.
Complementing its stance further are a set of colour-matched alloy wheels and full-LED lighting all around. By the way, the YZF-R15 can be had in three colour choices – Blue, Black and Yellow.
Underpinning a Delta Box chassis, the R15 also benefits with plenty of top-flight kit and features. Highlights include a fully digital instrument panel, aluminium swingarm, all-round disc brakes, upside-down (USD) front forks, as well as a decent 11-litre tank size.
As for the powertrain, the YZF-R15 harnesses power from a liquid-cooled 155cc SOHC single-cylinder heart primed with Yamaha’s Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) suite. The mill healthily outputs 19hp @ 10,000rpm and 14.7Nm @ 8,500rpm.
All that is sent to the rear via a six-speed manual chain-drive setup that also laced with an assist and slipper clutch feature. While it may not sound much, just remember that the YZF-R15 tips the scale at just 137kg.
Set to hit authorised dealers and showroom floors soon, HLYM has set a basic retail price of just RM11,988 for the new Yamaha YZF-R15. Said price makes this sporty offering all the more tempting, especially for avid newbies who seek a sporty ride.
