Yamaha is entering the airplane business?

By sep, 01 July 2021

If there's a couple of things that Yamaha is known for, they would be producing some of the most exciting motorcycles the world has even seen, and tuning the heck out of some supercars that produce magnificent soundtracks. But would you trust them to build the next-generation airplanes? Why not!

Yamaha Motor Co,. Ltd has signed a new joint research agreement with ShinMaywa Industries, Ltd. to develop and produce the next generation of small aircraft. Yamaha's expertise in building small yet powerful engines will at the heart of this newly-signed project as they step into the aviation industry.

ShinMaywa's contribution to this whole thing is its aircraft engineering technologies and expertise in other fields related to the aviation, which includes aircraft development, design concepts, prototype construction, autonomous technology, and many more for the small aircraft segment.

This joint venture will also explore the possibilities of commercialization, but they have yet to set any timelines or targets pertaining to the project. When it comes to Yamaha, we wouldn't be surprised if the project turns into a successful venture.

After all, their MotoGP prototype, Yamaha YZR-M1, is essentially a rocket with little upsidedown wings that help the bike to stay on the ground rather than shoot up into the air. Reaching speeds of 350km/h on the ground should be more than enough to gain flight capabilities if you attach the right wings.
