What's this mysterious Ferrari FXX K spied at the Nürburgring?

What’s this?
Kinda hoping you’re able to help. We’ve just seen these pictures of what appears to be a Ferrari FXX K Evo going at some pace around the Nürburgring. That’s the small, not-at-all-scary racetrack in Germany where not much happens.

And the FXX K Evo is the small, not-at-all-b*tsh*t fast version of the FXX K, which is a b*tsh*t fast version of the LaFerrari. Which is… well, you get the gist.

Remind me about the FXX K Evo.
With pleasure. As mentioned, it’s a tweaked FXX K, gaining 23 per cent more downforce than that car, and a whopping 75 per cent more downforce than a regular, road-going LaFerrari. Ferrari tells us the Evo produces 640kg at 200kph, and 830kg at the “car’s red line speed”.

Needless to say, it’s really, really downforce-y.

1

How does the Evo make all that downforce?
A redesigned front – using tricks Ferrari learned through its GT racing programme – along with modifications to the underbody (vortex generators), and the very complex but aesthetically pleasing rear. We’re talking a big wing, vanes, monster rear diffuser and so forth.

Even the rear arches were tweaked to better channel the wake.

1

Was the engine turned up in the Evo?
Over the FXX K? Nope. But it didn’t need any turning up, because the FXX K’s 6.3-litre V12 produces 1,036bhp. That’s thanks to 850bhp from the naturally aspirated motor itself, and a further 187bhp from an electric motor. There’s also 900M, of torque. That’s a big number.

Maybe this one’s a development prototype for some other series Ferrari wants to go racing in. Or a mule for a LaFerrari successor.
Point a), maybe. To our eyes at least, there appear to be no physical changes to this camouflaged car’s aero package over the Evo.

Point b), doubt it. That LaFerrari successor will only ever arrive once Ferrari has found the next technology leap. Probably too soon to be thinking about that right now.

Maybe it’s a Ferrari employee who wanted a really, really fun, inconspicuous day out?
Yeah, because that’s what happens. Come on, be serious, what’s going on here?
