This little Ferrari had no idea of the life that lay ahead of it. In 1965, it was simply a 330 GT Series II, finished in red with a beige interior. So far, so 1960s.

A mere two years later, it found itself back in the dealership that sold it – Luigi Chinetti Motors of Connecticut – whereby Mr Luigi Chinetti Jr decided to rebody the car. He worked with an American illustrator named Bob Peak, then sent the designs off to Carrozzeria Alfredo Vignale in Turin.

The result is the Shooting Brake you see above. At the time, it was painted in metallic green with a gold metallic roof, because it was the 1960s. It then enjoyed a bit of attention at the Turin Motor Show, and moved around the States.

A Parisian gentleman bought it in 1990, and immediately commissioned a refurb, owning it well into the Noughties, before none other than Jamiroquai’s Jay Kay bought it in 2011. He sold it shortly after to a man in Ohio.

It was repainted to the spec you see here in 2017, and boasts a 300bhp 4.0-litre V12, space for four, tan leather, a wooden dash, and of course that silhouette. RM Sotheby’s is offering this one-off for auction at its upcoming Petersen Automotive Museum sale in December… without reserve.

A rare, one-off Ferrari that isn’t being sold for many millions? Bargain of the year. Maybe.
