There’s a new variant of the XC90 in showrooms now that Volvo Passenger Cars Malaysia has brought the T5 variant to complement the existing T8 model. It basically has the same engine as the T8, minus the top-spec XC90’s supercharger yet still provide a healthy 254hp and 350Nm of torque thanks to the turbo. Gearbox is an 8-speed automatic that helps with the 0-100kph acceleration of 7.9 seconds. Volvo claims an average fuel consumption of 7.9 litres/100km.

The T5 offers all-wheel drive, however it does not come with Electric Rear Axle Drive (due to the lack of the T8’s 10.4kWh hybrid battery) or four corner air suspension that comes with Active Chassis.

It’s not just a matter of providing customers more options when choosing the XC90, but the new variant also sports an additional interior colour of Maroon Brown to choose from, and three new body colour options of Chrystal White, Denim Blue, and Maple Brown.

It’s a Volvo so don’t expect the safety system, or its semi-autonomous technology to be compromised. For that, City Safety with autobrake as well as Pilot Assist are all standard in the T5.

A few features omitted from the T5 (that’s available in the T8) includes the head-up display, Sensus navigation system, Road Sign Information System, and unfortunately, the Orrefors crystal gear lever. The wheels on the T5 are 19 inches as opposed to the 20-inch items fit to the T8.

The XC90 T5 is priced at RM373,888 (without insurance).
