Travis Pastrana’s new Gymkhana livery is wild

In case you haven’t heard, Ken Block won’t be driving in the next Gymkhana video. Instead, his pal and human Duracell bunny Travis Pastrana is getting behind the wheel for the eleventh instalment of the wildly successful series. Given he’s pretty handy behind the wheel of a rally car, gives it nothing but max wrist on a motorbike, and can seemingly pull the danger fuse in his brain at will, he has the CV for a Kenny B replacement.

But it’s not just the drivers being shaken up, as Travis will also be piloting a different car. A Subaru. Yep, Travis is taking these skiddy viral videos back to square one by shredding the tyres off a Subaru WRX STI – just like Ken did in the first-ever Gymkhana way back in 2008. Not just any Subaru WRX STI, rather a completely bespoke chuck-the-rulebook-in-the-bin modern day Group B looney that also throws in elements of DTM and WRC. Up until now we’ve only seen it parading around in its bare carbon birthday suit. But now we know what it’s going to look like with its clothes on. And, like anything Hoonigan has done in the past, it’s pretty out there.

The livery is a collaboration between Pastrana and Hoonigan’s CCO Brian Scotto. Wanting to bring in parts of Travis’ personality and Hoonigan’s legendary zero fudges attitude, the Subaru is decked out in nods to Pastrana’s home state of Maryland as well as his love for plaid. There’s also some fantastic detailing, bright yellow wheels and, best of all, yellow headlight lenses. Because all headlights look better when they appear to have a weeping eye infection.

What’s underneath the livery and carbon bodywork is equally wild. There’s steering wheel activated wing elements, a fully bespoke 2.3L Subaru Boxer engine with a billet block, plus a completely sealed carbon flat-bottom undertray, and several ‘party tricks’ we’re yet to know about. Consider us interested.

There’s no word on when and where the next video will be shot. But we’ll be following it closely, so stay tuned. Are you excited for Travis taking the reins? Or should Kenny B be back behind the driver’s seat? And is Ford better than Subaru? Let us know in by having a scrap in the comments below.
