Toyota GR Corolla launched in Malaysia - 1.6L Turbo, 300hp, RM355,000
The GR Corolla will only be available as a manual
Toyota today finally took the wraps off one of the most highly-anticipated models of the year - the Toyota GR Corolla.
The GR Corolla is powered by the same 1.6-litre 3-cylinder turbo engine as the GR Yaris. However, the output is slightly different as the GR Corolla here produces 300 PS and 370 Nm of torque, compared to the GR Yaris' 268 PS.
Paired with the engine is a 6-speed short-shift intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT) with auto rev match and equipped with the GR-FOUR AWD system capable of splitting front and rear torque distribution to 60:40, 50:50, and 30:70 – features reminiscent of the GR Yaris.
The GR Corolla weighs 1,475 Kg, and is fitted with front MacPherson Struts and rear Double Wishbone with retuned springs, dampers and anti roll bars to help increase body rigidity and handling performance.
It also comes with a forged carbon fiber roof, sporty rear spoiler and vented hood, and runs on Yokohama Advan tyres on 18” inch Alloy wheels.
Available in Precious Metal, Super White 2, Emotional Red 2, as well as Black body colours, the GR Corolla comes with a 12-inch inch Full Digital Multi-Information Display alongside a 9-inch Display Audio with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Also offered as standard are six speakers. In addition, the new GR Corolla is also fully equipped with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 which is the most advanced and most refined version of Toyota Safety Sense.
Features that are part of the Toyota Safety Sense suite of features include Pre-Collision Warning, Lane Departure Alert, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Tracing Assist, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Auto High Beam, ISOFIX mounts as well as seven airbags throughout the car.
“The introduction of these special GR and GR Sport models are a manifestation of Toyota’s aspiration to build ever better cars – cars that are designed and engineered with DNA derived from our experiences and achievements in global motorsports. These models are built to perform and to excite,” said UMW Toyota Motor, Deputy Chairman, Takashi Obata.
“We are proud to be able to continue to expand the GR presence in Malaysia, and this will not only be in terms of vehicle offerings, but also a comprehensive range of aftermarket performance parts and services available via the exclusive GR Garages and GR Outlets nationwide.” Said UMW Toyota Motor, President, Datuk Ravindran K.
That being said, Gazoo Racing’s product offering in Malaysia began with the introduction of the GR Supra in 2019, followed by the global release of the highly-anticipated GR Yaris in 2020. That same year, UMW Toyota Motor unveiled the Vios GR Sport in Malaysia which pays tribute to GR Vios Challenge racing cars.
Available at nine exclusive GR Garages nationwide, the GR Corolla is priced at RM355,000 on the road without insurance.
