This Rolls-Royce Phantom has over 3,000 feathers in its dashboard

Rolls-Royce takes customisation seriously. For the amount of money it takes to own one, that better be the case. The Goodwood-based carmaker's aptly-named Bespoke division is responsible for some of the most tastefully ostentatious cars we've ever seen, with some of its creations even finding their way to Malaysia

Bespoke's latest headline grabber is reserved for the Middle East. It's called the Phantom 'Iridescent Opulence' and what's unique about it is the fact that it has over 3,000 feathers in the Phantom's 'Gallery', which is basically a blank canvas on the dash for the brand's most distinguished customers to commission whatever they want. This time around, Swiss-based materials specialist Nature Squared was roped in to execute its 2017 concept of 'Iridescent Opulence' in the Gallery of a Phantom. And this is the result of the collaboration.

After identifying a sustainable species of bird with rich and dense plumage, over 3,000 tail feathers were selected for their iridescence and hand-sewn into an open pore fabric to create a surface with a deep and lustrous sheen that complements the centrepiece of the dash: an analogue clock inlaid with a Mother of Pearl surround. The Phantom's silver-on-teal colour scheme and feathered coachline help maintain the continuity of the naturalistic concept beyond the dash.

Some would argue that you can replicate the Gallery's look with the right graphics (and a digital clock) projected on a giant LCD display that all luxury cars tend to come with these days; we're all looking at it through a screen right now after all. But where's the fun in that?
