This is a BAC Mono R playing fancy dress as an anti-gravity ship from Wipeout. And what a sentence that is to kick the week off. It’s the first example of the new, £190k, 612bhp/tonne Mono R to be delivered, and it’s covered in more than 400 graphics inspired by the FEISAR team from the legendary PlayStation racing game.

It took ten days to complete the Mono’s makeover, and it was done so in collaboration with original Wipeout game creator Nick Burcombe as well as modern Wipeout graphic designer Eddie Wainwright.

“Burcombe famously had the idea for Wipeout while drinking with local visionary 3D artist Jim Bowers at a pub in Merseyside,” BAC tells us, “before going on to lead design operations for the game through Psygnosis at their Liverpool base – just a few miles away from BAC’s HQ in the city.”

You’re looking at an object brimming with even more Scouse pride than the Premier League trophy perched atop the bar of The Cavern. Perhaps.

And this Mono R’s owner? “When playing Wipeout on the PlayStation, I often dreamt of one day being able to fly around different race tracks for real in my own FEISAR ship. It’s not quite anti-gravity racing… but the frankly outrageous Mono R gives me the exact same sensation.”

Like what he’s done with Liverpool’s 2.5-secs-to-100kph track special?
