You’ve heard of the hot hatch. You’ve heard of the hot hatch estate. Now comes the hot hatch SUV, in the shape of the Skoda Kodiaq vRS. The Czech GTI is now a big seven-seater, and the more reproductive among you are no doubt delighted.

The more petrolhead-y among you are no doubt perplexed, though. Not only is this a seven-seat performance car that weighs 1.7 tons, but it’s powered by diesel. Think of it has a budget Audi SQ7 and you might just cope, though.

Power comes from a 2-litre twin-turbo four-cylinder TDI, its 236bhp being pushed through all four wheels for a circa-6.5sec 0-100kph time and – if fairly irrelevant trivia is your thing – a 9m29.8s Nürburgring Nordschleife lap time. A record for seven-seaters, if such a thing ever needed to exist.

The Kodiaq’s certainly going to look the part, though. While someone at Skoda forgot to top of the electricity meter – making these teaser shots rather dark – we can still spot the Race Blue paint and Xtreme alloys that make Octavia vRSs look nice and punchy.

We’re promised a better look at the car at October’s Paris Motor Show, when Skoda will also unveil a brand new vRS logo, which there’s a nice early glimpse below.
