Three words (four actually) – Porsche, Nurburgring, electric vehicle. Yes, it’s a record-setting lap yet again for the German sportscar company, this time with the upcoming Taycan. The car did the 20.6km Nordschleife in 7 minutes and 42 seconds with Lars Kern driving a pre-production Taycan, setting the fastest time for a four-door, all-electric sports car. “The Taycan is also suitable for race tracks and it convincingly proved that here on the world’s most challenging circuit,” Kern explains. “Again and again, I am impressed at how stable the all-electric sports car handles in high-speed sections, such as Kesselchen, and how neutrally it accelerates from tight sections, such as Adenauer Forst.”

The achievement comes off another two remarkable drives which Porsche calls the Triple Endurance Run – namely a string of 26 acceleration runs from standstill to 200kph, and completing 3,425km in 24 hours at the Nardo ring without any issues. “Numerous factors contribute to this performance and the efficiency of the powertrain, also at high speeds. These include the chassis systems that react within a fraction of a second as well as the outstanding aerodynamics,” said Stefan Weckbach, Vice President Product Line Taycan.

The endurance run at Nardo was mighty impressive, to put it mildly. Ambient temperature was scorching at a peak of 42 deg Celsius and track temp of 54. Apart from the stops for a quick-charge and driver changes, the Taycan completed the run with speeds between 195kph and 215kph.

As for the 0-200kph tests, it was done at an airport runaway with average acceleration for each of the 26 runs clocked at under 10 seconds. The difference between the fastest and slowest times was merely 0.8 seconds.
