The Ford Mustang Mach 1 is back
Going right the way back to the 1969 original, the Mach 1 has always been the Goldilocks of Mustangs. And now there’s going to be a new one, coming this Spring to plug the gap between the standard 5.0-litre V8 Mustang GT and the Shelby GT350 and GT500.
Ford says the new Mustang, about which we know very little, will be “the most track-capable 5.0-litre Mustang ever”. That’s excellent news, and suggests much sharpening has occurred beneath the bodywork.
We’re expecting close to 500bhp too, given the normal nat-asp V8 Mustang makes 460bhp and the 5.2-litre Shelby GT350 has 526bhp.
Ford’s teaser images reveal big Brembo brakes and sticky Michelin Cup 2 tyres, as well as a serious-looking quad-exhaust, diffuser and spoiler. Meanwhile a new grille draws inspiration from the ’69 Mach 1.
Will Ford bring the Mach 1 to the UK? Well the company’s press release does say the Mach 1 is “for global Mustang enthusiasts”, but we’re not hopeful. Nonetheless, fingers very much crossed.
