The Cupra UrbanRebel will be an EV supermini with 439 km of range

Remember the wildly bewinged Cupra UrbanRebel concept we first saw back in September 2021? Well, this is it without the wacky racing addendums, and it looks like a very attractive four-door supermini.

Now, although it may look almost there, Cupra is still sticking to its original 2025 release date. That’s because it’ll be built on the VW Group’s upcoming MEB Small platform that’ll also underpin the Volkswagen ID.1, although we’ve only seen a very basic sketch of that so far. Cupra says it is leading the group’s ‘cluster development’ on the family of teeny EVs.

Along with these new pictures, Cupra has also announced a few more details of the UrbanRebel. A 223bhp motor will power the front wheels for a 0-100kph time of 6.9 seconds and a long-range version will be able to stretch to 439 km on a single charge. Impressive for something this size.

For reference, this latest concept is just over four metres long and Cupra wants the production car to be built using ‘advanced recycled polymers and bio-based materials’. Apparently it’ll also deploy 3D printing and 3D knitting in its manufacturing process, although if we’re honest we thought all knitting was three dimensional anyway.

It’s not just a supermini that’s coming up for Cupra, though. The Spanish brand has also announced the two SUVs you see below…
 

Far left is the Tavascan – something Cupra has had in the works for a while now. It’ll be an electric coupe-SUV thing that’s set to launch in 2024. In the middle is the Terramar – a hybrid SUV with PHEV options that should allow for 100km of all-electric range. Cupra wants the latter to be ‘sporty’ and says that should also arrive in 2024.
