If you want a large two-door GT, what you should probably do is buy a Mercedes S-Class Coupe.
But if for whatever reason you’d rather have a BMW 8 Series, stick around, for we have news. This, Internet, is the 8 Series ‘First Edition’. BMW will build 400 between April and June, all in the exact same spec. And that spec is… black exterior trim, 20-inch Y-spoke alloys (also in black) and a new shade of matte blue paint. A carbon roof and exterior pack can be added in for a weight saving of literally no kilograms. Probably.
That pale blue/black theme is carried over to the interior, where you get two-tone white/blue leather and black trim. The normally optional Bowers & Wilkins ‘Diamond’ stereo is included, as are the crystal start/stop button, iDrive Controller, volume knob and transmission lever. Special “First Edition 1/400” lettering completes the look.
The First Edition 8 Series is based on the ordinary M850i – that means a 4.4-litre V8 with 523bhp, 0-100kph in 3.7 seconds and a limited 250kph top speed. You can read our review by clicking on these words.
A regular 850i costs a shade under £100K before options. No word on how much extra the First Edition is going to cost, but it’s gonna be a lot. It always is.
