A few months ago, BMW Malaysia confirmed that its biggest SUV to date, the X7, would be locally assembled. The estimated price given then was RM708,000, which represented a whopping RM180,000 reduction from the initial CBU price tag. If that wasn't enough, buyers can now expect to save an additional RM35k if they're quick as the 2021 X7 xDrive40i Pure Excellence CKD has been officially priced at RM673,324 on the road without insurance and SST.
For the money, you get BMW's Laserlight headlights, massive 21-inch alloys, the brand's latest infotainment (BMW Live Cockpit Professional with BMW Operating System 7.0), 16 speakers that make up the Harman Kardon Surround Sound System, soft close doors, five-zone climate control, entertainment for rear passengers and three rows of seats that can be arranged to open up 2,120 litres of cargo space. Oh, there's that pair of massive kidney grilles that's becoming synonymous with Bimmers of this generation too.
The sum of these parts is mobilised by a three-litre six-cylinder engine that sends 340hp and 450Nm to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. Unlike the sole X5 model sold here, there's no electrification in the Malaysian-spec X7. That said, the Bavarian behemoth will still do 0-100kph in a fairly swift 6.1 seconds. Average fuel consumption is rated at 9.5l/100km on paper.
