Stellantis has secured the full ownership of the NAZA manufacturing plant in Gurun, Kedah

Stellantis is showing one heck of a commitment for the Malaysian market after securing the full ownership of the NAZA Automotive manufacturing plant located in Gurun, Kedah on 28 October 2021. This acquisition is part of Stellantis' plans to increase its overall footprint in Southeast Asia, particularly Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines.

According to Christophe Musy, Senior Vice President, ASEAN & General Distributors at Stellantis, "Stellantis is deeply committed to growing our presence in ASEAN, and taking full ownership and responsibility of the plant in Gurun, Kedah is a very important step towards strengthening our operations, production outputs and workforce in the region."

"We have an ambitious growth strategy that will enable us to build on the existing production outputs in Gurun, as well as extend the breadth of brands and models within the Stellantis portfolio built in ASEAN for ASEAN. This is a very exciting proposition," added Musy.

The manufacturing plant in Gurun, Kedah has restarted its operations following the upcoming launch of the refreshed Peugeot 3008 and 5008 which will be sometime this week. This starting move will also see another high-end SUV offering to be available as a CKD model for the ASEAN region. Despite the pandemic, this is certainly good news for over 170 employees and 50 local suppliers who are linked with the said plant.
