Shell & Porsche will install 12 180kW DC chargers at six Shell stations this year

Shell together with Porsche Asia Pacific is breaking new ground today in the world of EVs here in Malaysia (as well as Southeast Asia) by the launch of its first of many High-Performance Charging chargers starting at the Shell station located in Tangkak, Johor.

Once everything is complete, this will be the first high-performance charging (HPC) infrastructure EV network as well as Shell’s first cross-country EV infrastructure in the region that connects Malaysia with Singapore and Thailand. There will be a total of 12 180kW DC fast chargers installed at six Shell stations located along the North-South highway.

This HPC network can be used by all EV owners via a pay-per-use service or an exclusive membership plan via its dedicated app. To put things into perspective, the 180kW DC fast charger can charge a Porsche Taycan from zero to 80% in just 30 minutes. This translates to around 390km of travel distance added within half an hour.

According to Amr Adel, Senior Vice President, Mobility – East, Shell, "Decarbonisation is a global challenge that requires broad-reaching, multi-faceted solutions. Our partnership with Porsche in meeting the needs of EV customers today is an important initiative under our Powering Progress strategy to achieve our goal of net-zero emissions by 2050. Together with Porsche, we'll be working to improve the EV charging experience along a key travel artery connecting three countries in the region."
