Shell champions child safety in Malaysia with car seat giveaway

By daryl, 16 March 2020

At the start of the year, the use of Child Restraint Systems (CRS) became a mandatory ruling in Malaysia. Despite endless calls for families to prioritise the safety of their children on our roads, the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety (MIROS) revealed that only 30 percent of car drivers in the country use child car seats. And even with the new ruling in effect, the sight of a three-year old waltzing around the back seat of a car travelling at highway speeds is still alarmingly prevalent today.

In a bid to raise awareness about child safety on the road and promote the usage of CRS seats, Shell Malaysia started a campaign last month (17 February 2020) which rewards up to 17 lucky Shell customers on a weekly basis with child seats worth RM507 each.

"Often, many parents do not know how important it is to have a suitable CRS. By rewarding customers with child car seats, we hope we can educate parents to protect their children when travelling on the road," iterated Shairan Huzani Husain, managing director of Shell Malaysia Trading and Shell Timur.

The giveaway is still ongoing, with a total of 136 car seats up for grabs up till 12 April 2020. To stand a chance to win, customers simply need to spend a minimum of RM40 at participating stations in Kuala Lumpur and Negri Sembilan, and submit their details via a contest form at the station.
