Big news in the world of Formula 1! Robert Kubica has decided to leave Williams at the end of the current season.

“I would like to thank the team for the last two years and for helping make my comeback to the Formula 1 grid possible,” said the 34-year-old. 

“I have enjoyed my time with ROKiT Williams Racing, both as Reserve & Development Driver and as a Race Driver this year, but I feel that the time is now right for me to move on to the next chapter in my career.”

Kubica joined Williams as a reserve driver in 2018 having carried out a number of tests during the previous year. That was just six years after he suffered life-changing injuries from a rally crash – what a man.

It’s been a difficult 2019 for Williams, though. Kubica picked up the team’s only constructors’ championship point of the season (so far) at the German Grand Prix, but he has been out-qualified at every single race by his young teammate George Russell.

Rumours have already begun circulating about who will replace the Pole. Will it be Nico Hulkenberg, who is without a seat having been dropped by Renault? Or perhaps Nicholas Latifi – Williams’ current reserve driver – will make the step up. He could bring strong financial backing at an important time for the Oxfordshire-based team.
