Proton teases special Saga ahead of nameplate's 35th anniversary

By daryl, 08 July 2020

Tomorrow marks 35 years since the first Malaysian car, the Proton Saga, came to be. The national carmaker has gone on quite the roller coaster ride since that fateful day in 1985. And with its fortunes now looking promising in spite of 2020's Covid-19 scare, Proton is looking to turn the party up tomorrow with a virtual launch of the Proton Saga Anniversary Edition to celebrate 35 years of mobilising a nation.

A teaser video recently posted on the Malaysian brand's social media pages gives us the clearest idea of how the Saga Anniversary Edition will look like to date. Yellow-on-black is the obvious design theme here, with the colour that represents Malaysia at most international sporting events used to elevate bits like the bumper trim, interior accents and even the dials in the instrument cluster in a somewhat sporty manner.

We suspect that the Proton Saga Anniversary Edition is largely the same as the 2019 facelift beneath its yellow haze, with much of the changes differentiating the celebratory model from the base car likely purely cosmetic. That said, we'd happily eat our words if Proton has a surprise in store for us tomorrow.

Its virtual launch - the first in Proton's history - will be hosted live on the national carmaker's official Facebook page tomorrow (9 July 2020) at 10:35AM, and everyone's invited. In the meantime, let's jog your memory of the latest iteration of the Proton Saga in the stories below...
