Porsche Macan S officially launched
If you stopped yourself from getting the Macan when it was first launched in June waiting for the more powerful Macan S, well wait no more. It’s now here, launched during the Sportscar Together Day organised by Sime Darby Auto Performance for customers and in fact, the public (potential customers, really).
The Macan S boasts 354hp and 480Nm, up by 102hp and 110Nm respectively over the baseline Macan variant. It's also 14hp and 20Nm more than the previous Macan S. Of course this comes from using different engines from the regular Macan – the new compact SUV is with a turbocharged V6 mill while the Macan packs a 4-cylinder 2.0-litre.
In any case, 0-100kph takes 5.1 seconds with the (optional) Sport Chrono package, against 6.5 seconds. A 7-speed PDK gearbox manages power delivery together with the Porsche Traction Management and AWD. Claimed fuel consumption (combined) is 8.9-8.6L/100km.
Brakes are now larger (by 10mm to 360mm at the front), thicker (up 2mm to 36mm), together with a noticeably improved pedal feel and a more immediate brake response.
Inside is the splendid 10.9-inch full HD touchscreen with a start screen that is fully customised much like a smartphone; might as well because it connects especially well with your iPhone using Apple CarPlay. We have to recommend the optional GT sports steering wheel because it completes the sports look. Standard in the Macan S is the air particulate filter.
The new Porsche Macan S is priced at RM625,000 inclusive of Premium Package as standard and a four-year warranty and maintenance package, including parts and labour. The new financing programme by Sime Darby Auto Performance called 360 Leasing is, however, not yet available for this model. In fact, this programme needs a story of its own.
