Police in Swiss town welcomes Kona EV into the fleet

We all love it when a police force gets to use a more-than-adequate type of vehicle in their fleet, as you can see here. But in some places they’re just not necessary, especially when the population being policed are more comfortable with eco-friendly cars. So it’s probably not that surprising the local police force in St. Gallen, Switzerland, chose the all-electric Hyundai Kona. In fact, a total of 13 of em’.

Five of those cars will sport patrol colours, while the rest are in ‘civilian’ colours which we reckon is police-talk for unmarked/undercover use.

Being in Europe, the police force had a decent number of make and models to choose from, but the Kona proved to be the most suitable after an evaluation was made. This includes its more than 100kW of power, space for five, room for equipment, and the 400km range. While the price of the vehicle is higher than a conventional SUV, the EV’s lower maintenance cost evens it out.

Now the only other equipment these guys need are laser guns. Because quiet cars need quiet weapons, and crossbows are too bulky.
