The all-new Peugeot 5008 has been officially launched in Malaysia, with the CBU 7-seater C-segment SUV priced at RM173,888 (on-the-road without insurance). It’s transition from an MPV is characterised by a more aggressive exterior that sits on top of the Efficient Modular Platform that it shares with the current 308 and 3008 models.
LED lights are used up front and rear, with the extra-wide tailgate now motorised that includes a convenient motorised hands-free opening/closing function by simply placing your foot briefly under the rear bumper.
The new 5008 is powered by the same 1.6-litre turbocharged and 6-speed automatic powertrain used in the previous-gen 5008 MPV, although this power unit now carries a vehicle that is 95kg lighter than before at 1,385kg. Its 167ps and 240Nm of torque makes 0-100kph achievable in 9.2 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 206kph. Peugeot claims an average fuel consumption of 7.3-litres/100km.
Big differences can be seen inside – the most significant being the distinctive Peugeot i-Cockpit which makes any Peugeot that comes with it look sleek and futuristic. Behind the small-diameter steering and transmission paddle shifter is a hi-resolution 12.3-inch digital meter cluster. To its left is an 8-inch multifunction touchscreen to give access to most in-car parameters. There’s also the bank of satin chrome toggle switches in the centre of the dashboard for quick access to functions such as air-conditioning, audio, assistance settings, and the telephone.
The SUV comes with Android Auto/Apple CarPlay/Mirrorlink connectivity, auto electric parking brake, dual zone air-cond, reverse camera with 3 view setting, and six speakers with 3D Arkamys audio system.
All seven seats are wrapped in premium leather, with the third row of two seats able to be folded down flat into the floor to optimise cargo holding (1,060 litre in 5-seater mode; grows to 2,042 litre with the second row similarly folded down). The same third seats are also removable with a single action to detach it. For better comfort for everyone, all seats are individually adjustable.
Safety features of the new Peugeot 5008 are wrapped in the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems feature that includes 6 airbags, Advanced Electric Stability Program, and Advanced Grip Control with five drive modes selection (Normal, ESP Off, Sand Mode, Mud Mode, and Snow Mode). Hill Descent Control, Driver Attention Alert, and Lane Departure Warning all standard items. Together with its high strength construction, the 5008 SUV comes with a five-star rating from Euro NCAP.
