Petron service stations are safe under GTSP programme

Petron’s commitment to community safety is greatly proven through its partnership with the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) in the Go-To-Safety-Point (GTSP) programme. Petron continued its GTSP awareness programme by demonstrating an emergency situation with the Sabah contingent RMP at Petron Minintod, Sabah on 20 October 2022.

“The GTSP programme is one of the ways we contribute to the safety, security and well-being of the community. We want to increase public awareness on GTSP and for Petron to be known as a safe location where they can seek early assistance in the event of an emergency. Our collaboration with RMP gives us the opportunity to give back to the community in the form of this program,” said Shaliza Mohd Sidek, Petron Head of Retail Business.

The GTSP Programme is an initiative led by RMP, under the government’s “United Against Crime” that aims to ensure the safety and security of the local communities. It increases police presence at Petron stations and calls made from Petron stations receive quicker response time, making the stations a safe shelter for the public during emergency situations.

The event was launched by the Sabah Deputy Police Commissioner, Jauteh bin Dikun which simulated an emergency situation. The exercise also served as a “real-time” training for the station staff to put their knowledge into practice when faced with similar situations in the future.

Another aspect of GTSP that was showcased during the simulation was the use of the ‘de-stress’ corner which provided a comfortable space for the public to seek shelter, calm down and receive early assistance. The corner was equipped with a first aid kit, a chair, a blanket and a safety information board that contained emergency contact numbers.

“I am honoured that my station has been chosen as the venue for Sabah State GTSP Event Launch. My station staff were trained to provide early assistance to the public during an emergency while we contacted the relevant government agencies for further support. My hope is that the simulation today will increase public understanding on the GTSP programme and assured them that they will be assisted by our station staff during emergency” said Yong Shiaw Yeou, Petron Minintod dealer.

Petron Malaysia is the first oil company to enforce GTSP at the service stations. Since 2013, all Petron Service Stations nationwide are GTSP ready and for easy identification, the GTSP window decal are posted on the glass wall of the stations. Service station personnel received periodic refresher trainings which were jointly held by Petron and RMP. These refresher trainings were conducted to ensure the service station staff are kept up to date and are adequately prepared for emergencies.

The GTSP programme at Petron service stations advocates safety as everyone’s responsibility and the importance of helping each other when in need. This was recently reinforced during the launch of 10 designs of murals and safety posters using old Malay proverbs to deliver personal and road safety messages to the public, at Petron Nilai Impian in September 2022.  This programme also supports Petron’s social sustainability aspiration on community engagement which is in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 17, partnerships for the goals.
