Over 16,300 summons issued during Raya week (so far)

A total of 16,377 summons were issued since the start of OP HRA

While the Hari Raya Aidilfitri announcement was a surprise to all Malaysians for 2022, the number of summons issued to motorists so far is actually not. The Road Transport Department (JPJ) announced that they've issued a total of 16,377 summons since the start of the Hari Raya Aidilfitri Operation (OP HRA) on 29 April 2022.

A report by Bernama quoted JPJ's director-general, Datuk Zailani Hashim, saying "The department has also issued a total of 776 Notice P22 summons, which is an order for inspection involving five main offenses, namely failing to comply with traffic lights, driving on emergency lanes, using mobile phone while driving, over-taking at double lines and speeding."

These five offenses will not be taken lightly, either, as all of these traffic offenders will need to face the court to the summons' inability to be compounded. All in all, the authorities have inspected close to 90,000 vehicles during the Raya period which includes the use of drones. Tech stuff, baby.
