Over 10,000 summons issued in ‘Modified Exhaust’ operation

By sep, 08 March 2021

The hot topic for the past few weeks have been plentiful, but one that’s sitting somewhere at the very top has to be the ‘Modified Exhaust’ special operation conducted by the authorities from PDRM, JPJ, as well as Department of Environment. Focusing solely on noise levels, Harian Metro reported that over 10,000 summons have been issued (10,166 to be exact) since the operation started on 1 March 2021.

An official statement released by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) Bukit Aman showcased that a total of 26,239 vehicles have been inspected so far involving 12,709 motorcycles, 8,678 cars, and 4,852 other types of vehicles for illegal modifications as well as exhaust that exceeded the noise limits set by the authorities.

Out of all the summons issued for a number of violations, a total of 1,423 were specifically handed out due to modified exhausts (1,060 motorcycles, 294 cars, and 69 others). Authorities also confiscated 474 bikes, seven cars, and two other vehicles in the process. Each summons carries a fine of no more than RM2,000 or six months’ prison sentence (maximum) if found guilty. Yikes.

From what we’ve heard, the operation that was supposed to end on 14 March 2021 will most likely be extended. You might want to go through your storeroom again to look for that stock exhaust you’ve forgotten all this time.
