Besides the Fortuner SUV, UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) have also refreshed its Innova 7/8-seat MPV offering for 2021. Orders can now be made through authorised dealers nationwide, and here’s what you can expect.

Like before, three variations are available, those being a base-spec plus a mid-spec G that feature seats for 8 across three rows, whilst a flagship X variant with 7 seats thanks to a pair of ‘Captain Seats’ in its second row caps things off. Key changes were made with exterior styling and on-board features, the latter being most apparent.

The updated styling sees the Innova sport a slightly redesigned exterior now. Much of the changes can be seen with the front fascia (bumper, grille, headlights and fog lights), whilst the rear remains largely the same as before. Altogether, it makes for a sportier and sharper look.

Mechanically, the Innova remains largely unchanged. It still employs a 2.0-litre 4cyl twin-cam (DOHC) mill delivering 137hp and 183Nm to the rear wheels. Notably, UMWT have scrapped the 5-speed manual transmission option available for the base-spec Innova 2.0E variant prior.

On board, the G and X variants now get updated 3D displays for their 360-degree Parking View Monitor (PVM. Both these variants also get new Blind-Spot Monitor (BSM) and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA) functions added

All variants get a new USB charging port in the third row seats whilst the existing two up front have been repositioned to the centre console for easier access.

Notably, all USB ports have been updated to fast-charging type too whilst a new wireless charging pad is offered as a cost-option Other optional extras include a front and rear Digital Video Recorders (DVR), a GPS- and GSM-powered Toyota Vehicle Telematics System (VTS) feature, as well as a premium security and solar tint package.

As for safety, the 2021-spec Innova’s 5-star ASEAN NCAP crash safety rating means ABS, stability (VSC) and traction (TCS) control suites, Hill-start Assist Control (HAC), as well as seven airbags come as standard across the board.

With the SST exemption now extended until 30 June 2021, the Innova’s price figures start from RM111,622 (E), RM121,483 (G) and RM129,677 (X) excluding insurance costs. All prices include UMWT’s five-year, unlimited mileage warranty schemes too.
