It has been revealed that between 1 to 10 April 2019 only 35 out of the estimated 200,000 e-hailing drivers (or 0.02 per cent) in the country has sent their vehicles for inspection by Puspakom. The need for the check is mandatory ever since the government announced last year that this service is to be regulated and subject to the same regulation as taxis starting 13 July 2019.

Due to this Puspakom is urging drivers to get the inspection done as soon as possible in order to not face difficulty such as not getting approval before the deadline.

Puspakom has started a few initiatives to cater to the large amount of vehicles including opening 19 selected inspection centres seven days a week, and ensuring their operation is ready to meet the challenge. According to Puspakom CEO Shukor Ismail, the company has the capability to conduct the e-hailing inspection and give the best service to customers.

“With our current capacity, operational system, infrastructure, mobile inspection service, 25 scheduled site visits, and a network of vehicle inspection centres for e-hailing vehicles consisting of 54 out of 56 permanent branches nationwide, Puspakom is ready to give our best service to customers.”

“We guarantee that Puspakom has the capacity to conduct the e-hailing inspection in Malaysia,” Shukor added. According to data extracted from the JPJ Facebook page, from the estimated 200,000 active e-hailing drivers in Malaysia, 50,000 individuals do it on a full-time basis.

The inspection can be done even if the driver has yet to obtain their PSV license. The first inspection will cost RM70.00 while the second is RM55.00. Those who failed the inspection can send the car for inspection again (after making the necessary repairs/changes) and paying RM25.00, and it must be done within 30 days of the last check. The first inspection is required for vehicles aged three years and above.
