National motorcycle brand Modenas sees its line up updated and expanded following the launch of two new models, those being the Kriss 110 moped and new Pulsar NS160 street bike.

Both were launched earlier today and sees Modenas strengthening its efforts in capturing an even larger market share in the local lightweight sub-200cc motorcycles market space. Here’s what you ought to know about both new machines.

Kriss 110
Aptly, the new Modenas Kriss 110 takes off right where its predecessor – the Kriss MR2 – left off. This moped – or kapchai – remains true to its original mission of being a very affordable yet equally capable commuter for all.

In its latest 2019 form, the venerable Kriss now benefits with the status as a certified EEV (Energy Efficient Vehicle) motorcycle in the eyes of the government. That’s being coupled with a new and sporty styling that’s reportedly designed locally too.

Powering this new Kriss 110 is an air-cooled four-stroke 110cc single-cylinder powerplant that outputs 4.7bhp and 6.7Nm. Sourced from Zongshen of China (not Kawasaki), this Euro 3-compliant mill is paired with a 4-speed transmission and chain drive setup.

Notable on board features include a decent 4.2-litre tank that promises up to 200km of maximum travel, new meter panel design with carbon-effect finishing, LED signal lamps, stylish 17-inch alloy wheels, as well as a new telescopic front and twin rear suspension setup plus drum brakes front and aft.

The new Modenas Kriss 110 is set to hit authorised dealer floors nationwide starting 1st October onwards where it will command a base retail price of RM3,377.

Pulsar NS160
Launched alongside the Kriss 110, the new Pulsar NS160 sees Modenas expanding its Bajaj-based Pulsar streetbike line up. The newly launched NS160 model now stands s the entry point offering from the Pulsar line up.

Slotted below the existing Pulsar NS200 offering, the NS160 is effectively an identical machine. The only difference here is the latter’s use of smaller-sized 160cc single-cylinder powerplant primed with a twin-spark ignition system.

Though smaller in size, the Pulsar NS160’s powerplant still delivers a respectable 14.7bhp and 14Nm headlining figures, which is managed by a five-speed manual transmission and chain-drive setup.

Notable on board equipment include disc brakes all-round, telescopic front fork, Nitrox gas-charged rear monoshock, hybrid analogue and digital instrument display, LED taillamp, decently large 12-litre fuel tank, as well as 17-inch alloys wheels.

Just like the Kriss 110 launched alongside it, Modenas says the new Pulsar NS160 offering will hit dealer floors nationwide starting 1st October as well, where it will command an affordable base price tag of just RM7,577.

With said price, which sees this streetbike undercut both the popular Honda RS150R and Yamaha Y15ZR supercubs, Modenas s aims to sell up to 1,500 units of the Pulsar NS160 in the first year of release.
