McLaren Artura launch Malaysia

McLaren Kuala Lumpur officially launched the Artura in Malaysia today at the brand’s showroom in Glenmarie, Shah Alam.

Priced at RM1,050,000, the McLaren Artura, which is McLaren’s first series-production hybrid supercar, is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 engine which is assisted by a compact 94 bhp electric motor, producing 680 PS and 720 Nm of torque.

The electric motor here is capable of generating 95 PS and 225 Nm by itself and boasts a power density per kilo 33% greater than the system used in the McLaren P1.

Paired to the engine and motor is an eight-speed twin-clutch transmission which sends all the power exclusively to the rear wheels, and also McLaren’s first electronic differential.

The powertrain enables the Artura which weighs 1,498 kg to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.0 seconds, 0 to 200 km/h in just 8.3 seconds, and 0 to 300 km/h in 21.5 seconds.

Complementing the drivetrain is a new rear suspension concept, an uprated electro-hydraulic steering system, as well as the Proactive Damping Control system which enhances agility, stability, and overall driving dynamics of the car.

Also part of the package is a 7.4 kWh battery which enables the Artura to cover up to 30 km in pure electric mode at speeds up to 50 km/h. There are four driving modes to choose from – E, Comfort, Sport, and Track.

Here to succeed the 570S, the Artura is the first model to be underpinned by the McLaren Carbon Lightweight Architecture (MCLA) chassis which is uniquely optimised for high-power hybrid powertrains.

Thanks to the lightweight chassis and a generous dose of carbon fibre, the Artura has an impressive power-to-weight ratio of 488 PS per tonne. Since it is a hybrid, the Artura also happens to be the most fuel-efficient McLaren to date.

Fitted as standard are next-generation Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres which are said to offer grip levels that are comparable to the P Zero Trofeo R on the McLaren 600 LT.

McLaren Artura interior

Sporting a low-nose, cab-forward, high-tail stance, highlights on the Artura’s exterior include LED headlights and taillights, as well as McLaren’s signature dihedral doors.

Inside, the Artura features a completely new interior unlike any other model in the stable, featuring a new eight-inch HD touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone mirroring.

The hybrid supercar also comes with the Clubsport seat, which uniquely combines the range of motion expected of a moveable backrest with the light weight and support of a bucket seat. A Comfort seat option is also available.

Another highlight of the Artura is that it comes with the new McLaren infotainment and connectivity system (MIS II) which utilises two high-definition screens.

The interface is built on all-new software and bespoke hardware to deliver a smartphone level of responsiveness and is also capable of smartphone mirroring.

The system also also optionally enables a number of ADAS driver assistance features like Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop/Go function, Lane-Departure Warning, High-Beam Assist, and Road-Sign Recognition.

Last but not least, the Artura features a Bluetooth low-energy vehicle key which detects when the driver is heading towards the vehicle and powers up systems to welcome occupants. This includes ambient, ‘hidden-until-lit’ lighting in the doors, also acting as puddle lamps.

Every McLaren Artura comes as standard with a five-year vehicle warranty, a six-year battery warranty and 10-year body warranty.
