Marc Marquez rides again for the first time since July 2020

After eight months of intensive recovery and recuperation, Repsol Honda MotoGP rider, Marc Marquez, has finally been cleared for a more serious training regime. Last weekend, Marquez posted a video of him riding a mini moto around the circuit, something that we haven’t seen since July 2020, which was the last time he hopped on the Honda RC213V, or any bike since then.

It’s been quite a tough journey for Honda champion since breaking his arm last year, which resulted in a botched recovery process and sitting out for the entire 2020 MotoGP season just to recover. This video of him riding again shows significant improvements, but it’ll take a while before he can be properly fast against the other titans on the grid.

With the 2021 season opener just two weeks away, fans and even Marquez himself are optimistic that he’ll be on that grid once the lights go out. His name is indeed in the provisional entry list for the Qatar round, but the HRC star rider wants to take one at a time on his road to full recovery, starting with the mini moto. He will then move on to bigger bikes, like the Honda CBR1000RR-R, before making any attempts to pilot the manic RC213V.

Two weeks might seem like a short time for normal mortals, but it’s probably just enough time to at least see Marquez attempting to ride during the Free Practice sessions on Friday and Saturday. Will he be fast right out of the gate? Maybe, but even aliens have to take things slow when they’re injured. It’s even more critical if one is planning to ride at over 350km/h on a two-wheel crotch-rocket.
