Listen up Honda, Subaru, and Mazda owners affected by the Takata recall
It’s good to know that the Transport Ministry is still on the case of car companies and vehicles which are recalled due to the Takata airbag issue. Earlier today, minister YB Anthony Loke said that owners who are still ignoring the recall and have yet to change their vehicle’s airbags are at risk of being blacklisted.
The car brands specifically mentioned are Honda, Subaru, and Mazda, and the government had asked the vehicle companies concerned to send the final reminder to affected car owners within two weeks. A total of 408,551 reminders have already been sent to affected owners, and Loke said that this move has cost a total of almost RM1 million since June 26.
Despite this, only 70,853 vehicles or about 17 per cent have made the move and completed the airbag recall.
"If they still ignore the warning letter, the Road Transport Department (TRD) will send a notice to be called to give an explanation or risk being blacklisted," Loke told a media conference, as reported by Bernama.
Other companies such as BMW, Mitsubishi, Nissan, and Toyota have two months to get sufficient stock of airbags after reporting to the ministry of difficulties in getting supplies.
"They made excuses such as transport problems, including in getting stock from Japan but they expect all stocks to arrive by end of November," the minister added.
