BMW Motorrad Malaysia announced the arrival of two new additions today, and they are the new-for-2020 BMW F900 R naked and F900 XR adventure sport twins.

The long-awaited replacement of the long-running F800 R model, BMW’s F900 R is set to give things like the Kawasaki Z900, Honda CB650R, the Yamaha MT-09, the Ducati Monster 821 and the Triumph Street Triple 765 something to sweat about.

The new F900 XR, on the other hand, sees BMW Motorrad breaking into a new segment altogether. This sporty-looking dual-sport offering is set to rival against things like the Yamaha Tracer 900 GT and Ducati Multistrada 950 instead.

Underneath, both the F900 R and F900 XR is propelled by a reengineered version of the 853cc parallel-twin from the F850 GS dual sport adventure, now displacing 895cc instead to deliver peppier outputs of 105bhp and 92Nm of twist.

Besides the upsizing, the mill boasts 90-degree offset crankpins and a high 13.1:1 compression ratio setup. It also comes primed with a newly designed underfloor silencer piping scheme that helps to keep the exterior profiles of both bikes sleek.

Both get traditional 6-speed chain-drive manual setups with anti-hopping clutch and a new engine drag torque control (MSR) brimmed. The option to add the BMW Shift Assistant Pro bi-directional (up- and down-shift) quickshifter suite is also present.

Right out of the box, both machines feature two selectable ride modes – Rain and Road – plus an Automatic Stability Control (ASC) suite that’s disengageable.

Tick the Riding Mode Pro option box and both are further brimmed with both Dynamic and Dynamic Pro ride modes, along with Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), banking-capable ABS Pro, Dynamic Brake Control (DBC) and the aforementioned new MSR suite.

Furthermore, the sizable 6.5-inch TFT digital dash display present is enhanced further with connectivity features and the handlebar-mounted Multi-Controller wheel. This alone sees both standing as first in segment to offer such tech as standard equipment.

Available now at all authorised BMW Motorrad dealerships nationwide, the new BMW F900 R naked and F900 XR adventure sport command base prices of RM62,500 and RM69,500 respectively. Both figures include BMW Motorrad Malaysia’s 3-Year Warranty and 3-Year Roadside Assistance Programmes.

On another note, BMW Motorrad Malaysia also released its revised-for-2020 pricing scheme for its entire line up. You can view this list, and more images of both the new F900 R and F900 XR models, below.
