A reader sent us pictures of this, a Toyota in Citrus Mica Metallic colour which what seems to be in an advertisement shoot on the streets of Kuala Lumpur. It’s a Yaris, of course, which we know is going to be launched soon. Also, it’s complete with the TRD Sportivo kit. Fancy.

There’s not enough detailed info to go with for now, however, and the same car available in neighbouring countries only reveal the Yaris’ diversity in specification. The car is currently sold in Thailand, Indonesia, and Philippines, with five variants available up North starting from THB489,000 (that’s roughly RM63,000). According to Toyota Thailand’s website, all variants come with a 1.2L engine that makes 86hp and 108Nm, all going to a CVT transmission.

The Indonesian Yaris spans six variants all running the 1.5L engine with a starting price of IDR238,350,000 (RM68,200), with the top spec unit with TRD Sportivo kit stretching all the way to IDR278,850,000 (RM79,800).

In Philippines, the Yaris comes with a 1.5L and 1.3L engine, the former generates 107hp and 140Nm mated to a CVT. The latter powertrain – good for 99hp and 123Nm – is a bit more interesting, because there is a 5-speed manual gearbox option. The 1.5L starts at PHP1,045,000 (RM80,700) while the 1.3L starts from PHP880,000 (RM67,800).

Considering the 1.5L 2NR-FE plus CVT powertrain is already utilised in the UMW Toyota’s 2019 Vios, it’s very possible the Yaris will roll on with the same package.

Moving on, here’s one thing that we’re sure to be included – a more advanced safety suite which we first saw in the Toyota Rush’s 360-T (Blind Spot Monitor, DVR, Hill-Start Assist, Panoramic View Monitor, etc), as well as Connectivi-T (DVD-AVX with Screen Mirroring via the entertainment unit, and a few USB charging ports).

We hear that UMW Toyota is accepting booking of the latest Yaris on 1 April 2019. Of course, prices of the Yaris in neighbouring countries does not directly indicate what it will be here in Malaysia, especially as it’ll be built at the company’s new factory in Klang.

What do you think of the car? And any guesses of the price?
