Facts that we already know about the new Land Rover Defender is that it’ll be up for sale in 2020. The company is certainly more than happy to keep everyone interested by driving the camo-ed vehicle for the world to see, complete with a #BEST4X4XFAR hashtag.

But Land Rover USA has confirmed that the all-new Defender will be revealed in 2019. And it will make a return to America in 2020.

It’s about time too because the Defender has been absent in the American market for two decades, mostly owing to regulation/preference issues (airbags, emission, lack of diesel variant). Considering that other Land Rover models currently sold in the US does offer a diesel option, probably safe to say the V6 diesel burner may end up in the new model. Same can be said of the 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine now residing in the Velar, or a plug-in hybrid system from the P400e.

A few prototype vehicles are already in the country for testing purposes. Engineers will subject the vehicle to rigorous test extremes to make sure the new Defender is the most off-road capable Land Rover vehicle ever; operating in temperatures from -40degC to 49degC while driving the test vehicles on- and off-road at altitudes of more than 13,000 feet above sea level.
