Hyundai launches extended warranty program in Malaysia

If you own a Hyundai that no longer has any factory coverage, you can now opt-in for Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) new Extended Warranty Program for additional peace of mind.

The company's latest aftersales initiative is now available for owners of older Elantra (AD, MD), Sonata (LF), Tucson (TL, LM) and Starex (TQ) models with expired warranties, subject to several vehicle conditions. For starters, only vehicles that are less than eight years old, with no more than 300,000km clocked within the first five years from date of purchase are eligible.

Only vehicles with good service records at authorised Hyundai service centres are allowed, and owners who opt in will be required to continue maintaining their vehicles at authorised facilities as per HSDM's recommended service intervals.

The Extended Warranty Program covers 'internal and primary components of the transmission system and electrical components of the engine, transmission, motoring and modular parts of the vehicle'; note the emphasis on components, and not the engine or transmission on a whole. And it's not free either.

Customers will have to pay a yearly renewal fee of RM1,280 to enroll in this program while the coverage limit per claim is set at RM10,000. There will also be a 30,000km annual mileage cap applied to the warranty, which should suffice for most casual drivers.

Most extended warranty programmes by a car brand are offered by premium and luxury car brands but we are offering this programme for Hyundai cars as we are confident of the quality of our vehicles and we want to help our customers maintain their cars longer with peace of mind
