Hurrah! You can finally buy a Tesla Roadster

By topgear, 12 November 2019

We’re extremely excited for the Tesla Roadster 2.0. Anything that’s road legal and claims 0-100kph in 1.9secs is definitely worth waiting for.

But oh, how we’ve waited. Elon first unveiled the targa-roofed hyper-EV in 2017, when it rather hijacked the launch of the Tesla Semi truck. That was a whole two years ago, though, and since then we haven’t had many official statements on its progress.

And now, out of nowhere, it’s here…

…in 1:18 scale model form, at least. Look at it! Cuuuute.

The model is for sale exclusively through Tesla’s website in the US, and has apparently been designed using the same 3D CAD data of the life-size Roadster. That means every surface exactly replicates the upcoming production car.

There are over 180 metal and plastic parts in the model, with a detailed interior, opening doors and a removable roof. There’s even a carpeted boot and seat belts made of real fabric. Does this mean the production roadster will get that chopped steering wheel, too? We certainly hope so.

Once again, the Roadster has slightly upstaged the Semi, though. There’s also a new 1:24 scale version of Tesla’s truck for all those wanting to spend their US$250 (approx. MYR1,036) on a lorry rather than the lovely looking Roadster.

So, let’s forget the internals for a second. What do you reckon to the design of both, Internet?
