How badly do you want to own this Ferrari 308 GT2 racer?

Right, we’ve got a fiver here – who wants to help us stump up the rest of the US$695,000 (Approx. RM3,028,254) asking price for this ridiculously cool Ferrari 308 GT2 race car?

Perhaps some background first...

Like other 308s of the time, this 1976 fibreglass GTB was originally prepared for racing by the Padua-based Ferrari dealer Michelotto. It was then purchased by American Jack of all trades Warren Mosler and shipped to the US, where it was campaigned as an IMSA GTU car.

Remaining the antithesis of a garage queen, in the 1980s it was converted to SCCA GT2 specifications and subsequently raced in the SCCA Nations series for over 20 years. What a thing. It was also used as the poster car for Jim Beam whiskey promotions in the late 80s.

How brilliant does that boxy front end and stripped out interior look too?

In both ’97 and ’98 this very 308 competed in the Sports Car Club of America’s end-of-season National Championship Runoffs, finishing 4th and 9th respectively – over 20 years after it was first built. The livery it’s wearing now is from that final Runoffs appearance.

The best part of all of this? Any old pleb (granted, with US$695,000) can buy this historic racer from Ferrari Lake Forest in the US. What do you reckon, Internet, shall we have a whip-round?
