Honda targets 100% electrification by 2040, including motorcycles

The days of internal combustion are certainly numbered and when one of the world's biggest manufacturers is going full EV in the coming years, you know there's no turning back. Honda has set a target where 100% of its sales will be of the zero-emission electrified vehicles by 2040, specifically in North America.

This 'carbon neutrality' master plan has already begun where the first stage will see Honda hitting 40% total EV conversion by 2030, and 80% by 2035. A series of EV models based on the brand's latest e:Architecture platform will be introduced that will also target "zero traffic collision fatalities" by 2050, and motorcycles are also included in this grand scheme.

The e:Architecture platform-based models will be starting sometime after 2025, starting with the North American market, and other regions around the globe in stages. Why North America? Because Honda is jointly developing two large SUVs with GM and their Ultium battery system, and these two models will make their debuts as 2024 models (one under Honda, the other under Acura).

Apart from EVs, Honda is also working on hydrogen as a support system where hopefully it'll be a more acceptable renewable energy source down the road. Hydrogen is seen as a fuel that can cater a wider range of mobility, especially in commercial use like trucks and power sources (both stationary and movable).

As for the goal of 'zero automobile and motorcycle collision fatalities' by 2050, this will be set out by using Honda's omnidirectional Advanced Driver-Assistance System (ADAS) that's leaps and bounds beyond the current Honda Sensing unit to all of its new vehicles by 2030. These are indeed exciting times, but do take the time to enjoy the ICEs now before they're gone for good, eh?
